Delhi Station Stampede: Strict Security Is Installed By Officials

After the deadly stampede at the New Delhi railway station, officials have taken swift action to bolster security measures and prevent such incidents in the future. The stampede, which occurred on Saturday, killed 18 people and left many injured.

What happened?

It all started at 10 PM when a surge of passengers got confused by a mix-up in train announcements and rushed towards platform 16 via a narrow stairway.

The crowd formed a human bottleneck, trapped between those attempting to ascend and those attempting to descend. Within minutes, panic spread, and individuals began to tumble, resulting in a horrific rush. On Sunday, the congestion remained mostly unchanged, with thousands jostling for space on platforms and footbridges.

With thousands of passengers struggling to board trains amid heavy rush, Delhi Police, along with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP), has deployed additional personnel to manage the rush at the station, which remained overcrowded on Sunday.

Commenting on the situation, the official said, "We have set up barricades, intensified patrolling, and deployed quick reaction teams to prevent further incidents. CCTV surveillance has also been enhanced, with control rooms monitoring real-time footage for crowd control."
